The British actor Paul Warren began his film career as a body double for Daniel Radcliffe on the film Harry Potter & the Order of the Phoenix, where he spent most of the time 6 m up in the air on the hydraulic broomstick system.

His first creature performing role was in 2009, when he played a tortured soul who pulls the boat across the river styx in the 2010 remake of Clash of the Titans. Working with the Oscar nominated Creatures Inc, Paul underwent a full 5-hour makeup process and then performed in the outside water tank at Pinewood Studios. In 2010, he was chosen by director Joe Johnston to be a visual effect double for skinny Steve Rogers in Captain America: The First Avenger. Working closely with Lola Visual Effects, Paul was Skinny Steve in the pre-production proof of concept tests and was on set as a visual reference for the recruitment scene. He has since gone on to work on Marvel’s Thor: The Dark World and Guardians of the Galaxy, gaining a reputation as one of the go to creature actors in the UK.

In 2014 Paul was invited to join Neal Scanlan’s CFX team on Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Credited as a ‘creature and droid puppeteer’, he plays an alien called ‘Varmik’, a cult fan favourite based on classic Ralph McQuarrie concept art from 1975.
